Transcription

We provide transcription of meetings, conferences, interviews, reports and many more using
the following types of media:

CD Rom mini cassette micro cassette standard cassette VHS video DVD

DSS WAV MP3

DSS (Digital Speech Standard) files are highly compressed, therefore they are much smaller than WAV files. A 1MB DSS file can contain approximately 16 minutes of dictation whereas a 1MB WAV file can contain approximately 2 minutes of dictation. For this reason DSS files are much easier to e-mail as an attachment. Due to this it is strongly advised the client sends in the tape(s) for evaluation before a final quote can be determined.

Files for transcription can be sent via e-mail or post and will be returned as per your instruction.

Please note that the time taken to transcribe a tape can be dependent upon the quality and clarity of the recording. We speak four to five times faster than we can type, therefore it can take approximately 4-5 hours to transcribe a 1 hour recording, based on a good quality recording.

Tips for producing a good quality audio file:

  • use an external microphone – internal microphones have limited volume and pick up noise from the recorder itself

  • place the microphone close to the source of sound

  • turn off voice-activation on your recorder, as this can cut off the beginning of your speech

  • start recording before you speak

  • speak clearly, slowly and at an audible level

  • spell out any technical words

  • providing a glossary of difficult words, in advance, will speed up the transcription time

Finished documents will be supplied in either hard copy, floppy disc, CD or e-mailed as an attachment.

All work is produced to client specifications and delivered with high standards of accuracy and presentation, utilising components of Microsoft Office.
